The Best Twitter Reactions From Golden Globes Nominees (And Stars The Awards Passed Over)

sofia vergara

After news of yesterday's Golden Globes nominations hit the web, celebrities (whether nominated or not) tweeted out their initial reactions.

Most responses offered a heartfelt (and funny) "thank you" to the voters, but some (cough, Jason Segel) made no mind to cover up their true feelings about being left off of this year's list of nominees.

Sofia Vergara, "Modern Family": Golden Globe Nominee Presenter and Best Supporting Actress in TV Series Nominee

"Celebrating with cake at 5am my Golden Globe nomination #goldenglobes say.ly/feh18vg"

Zooey Deschanel, "New Girl": Nominee for Best Actress in a TV Musical or Comedy

"omg. OMG. speechless! RT @mindykaling OMG @ZooeyDeschanel U R SO GANGSTA #GoldenGlobes #gowntime."

Jason Segel, not nominated

"Trying to cheer up my Muppets' costars about Golden Globes. As you can see, it doesn't seem to be working. pic.twitter.com/UvnH45tD"

AskMen's 99 Most Desirable Women of 2012

$

Most-desirable-women-2012-natalie-portman

Scarlett? Sofia? Kim? Katy? Which sexy, confident, spectacular women captured our hearts this year? AskMen.com scoured the globe to find the Top 99 Most Desirable Women of 2012—from steamy Colombian nightclubs to the high fashion runways of Milan, from brains to busts to business sense.

The ladies of 2012 aren't just the next pretty faces: They're smart, strong women who offer the complete package. So, who moved up the ranks from last year? Who didn't make the cut? Who burst onto the scene and demanded our attention? And, out of all of these, who claimed the No. 1 spot?

25. EMMANUELLE CHRIQUI

2010's Most Desirable Woman dropped a few spots in last year's Top 99, but nobody is disputing that Emmanuelle Chriqui is still as sought-after as ever. The gorgeous Montreal native returned to Entourage for its final season, during which Eric (Kevin Connolly) tried to win his former fiancée back. We don't blame him. For some reason, the stunning actress still remains woefully underrated outside of premium cable. After having a low-key past few years (except for a crazy hot lap dance in Elektra Luxx), Chriqui will hopefully see more screen time if the planned Entourage movie pans out.

THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID:

"I'm a late bloomer... Really, in my mid to late 20s, things turned for the better." — Emmanuelle Chriqui (Access Hollywood)

24. JESSICA ALBA

Beginning her career as a wholesome teen star, Jessica Alba probably would have stayed on that safe, shrink-wrapped career path if Robert Rodriguez hadn't gotten a hold of her. The two first teamed up for Sin City -- in which Alba does the sexiest stripper dance without nudity ever filmed -- and then again for 2010's Machete. Appearing in a gritty grindhouse movie gave her a dangerously sexy edge and also reminded us that Alba is half Latina. Now we'll watch anything that she's in, even if it's Spy Kids 4. Unfortunately, there was no Aromascope for Alba's hair.

THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID:

"All of the stuff I got made fun of as a kid — bubble butt, fish lips, the dark skin — I'm proud of now." — Jessica Alba (Latina)

23. OLIVIA WILDE

How hot is Olivia Wilde? The former House star is so attractive that men want her, and women, well, want her, too. During her career, the brunette bombshell has made out with more actresses than we can count, and Megan Fox once openly campaigned to be next on that list. Wilde has added sci-fi geeks to her dance card, first making $200-million worth of CGI eye candy pale in comparison to her skintight suit in Tron: Legacy, and then making us indifferent about who'd come out on top in Cowboys & Aliens - as long as she got screen time. Now that's hot.

THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID:

"I'm trying to be adult, entering the shark pool of dating, but I'm hopeless at it." — Olivia Wilde (Marie Claire)

This 'Modern Family' Star Is Getting A Reality Show On YouTube

Sofia VergaraSofia Vergara and Wilmer Valderrama are among the talent contributing to Electus' new YouTube channel NuevOn, the company said Monday.

NuevOn (Spanish for "New On," more or less), which launches on Monday, will offer "high-impact, buzz-worthy programming almost entirely in Spanish," according to Electus. The channel was conceptualized with Electus in partnership with Latin World Entertainment CEO Luis Balaguer and will target "young, multi-cultural Latinos."

Vergara's contribution to the channel is "Mi Vida Con Toty," a "loud, in-your-face reality series" that features the "Modern Family" star and her 20-year-old son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara, as he chronicles his mother's "Hollywood Latino life." New episodes will premiere every Thursday.

"Awake" star Valderrama, meanwhile, created and executive-produces "King of the Floor," a reality competition series that will grant viewers "a rarely seen glimpse into the elusive world of underground break dancing." The series will premiere sometime in the coming months.

Also on the NuevOn slate: "Archivos Mortales," a scripted thriller in the "Paranormal Activity" vein that will follow two journalism students as they attempt to complete a research project on a San Juan tradition where "the devil comes to take some souls." The project goes awry when "a terrible past comes back to haunt" the student journalists. The series will air Fridays.

The channel's current roster is fleshed out by the entertainment news/gossip show "Feim Fix," with host Felipe Viel; "Yes You Can With Chaban," which features formerly overweight soap-opera star Alejandro Chaban sharing weight-loss tips; and "Turn It On," which will present weekly highlights from the channel's programming.

NuevOn's full talent and programming slate will be announced in the coming weeks.

Before Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise Wanted Sofia Vergara As His Wife [Report]

$

Sofia Vergara

After Tom Cruise blindsided his pregnant wife Nicole Kidman with divorce papers in 2001 (she later lost the baby), the actor was looking to cast a new leading lady—and quickly.

Cruise soon rebounded with his "Vanilla Sky" co-star Penelope Cruz, who stood by the actor's side on many a red carpet, but quickly exited stage left after he took her to Scientology’s Celebrity Centre in Hollywood and encouraged her to take classes.

Cruz responded by publicly stating "I have great respect for all religions, but I do not intend to join any of them at the moment." And that was the end of that.

At which point, according to this incredibly juicy New York Post article by "Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography" author Andrew Morton (who cites anonymous sources), Cruise, with the help of the church of Scientology, literally auditioned young, upcoming actresses for the role of Mrs. Cruise.

When that hookup bit the dust, he gave Scientology leaders a wish list of women he would like to date. They included Jennifer Garner and the up-and-coming actress Sofia Vergara.

When Vergara got an invitation from Cruise’s friend Will Smith to attend a pre-Oscar party, she had no idea she was being set up. She was dazzled by Tom’s megawatt smile and amused by the blizzard of phone calls, flowers and chocolates that followed their first meeting.

It was not long before he casually suggested they head for Celebrity Centre where, surprise, surprise, Miscavige [church of Scientology leader and Cruise's best friend] was waiting to layer on the charm. It soon became clear that she was being auditioned for the biggest role of her life — Mrs. Tom Cruise Mark III. It was made clear that if she took the part, she would have to renounce her Catholic faith and convert to Scientology.

“She was fundamentally terrified of Scientology,” a friend told me. “She sincerely believed that she would be struck down by God and burn in hell if she joined.”

After pursuing Vergara, who would later go onto "Modern Family" fame, proved fruitless and Cruise passed on Scientology actresses such as Erika Christensen, Erica Howard and Sofia Milos, the actor turned his search to up and comers outside of the church.

They were looking for a woman who would accept the teachings of Scientology, but who would also look good on Tom’s arm—and not make too many waves.

“They had to look outside the herd, so to speak. They went for Jennifer Garner, Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Alba, in that order. Jennifer and Jessica didn’t bite, but Scarlett took the bait and came in for an audition. When she arrived at the address and found out it was the Scientology center in Hollywood, she freaked out and didn’t do a tape.”

Finally, the Scientology casting crew hit on Katie Holmes, then 26, after they read an interview in which she said she would like to marry Tom. A senior Scientologist was sent to New York to give her the once-over. He liked what he saw.

And the former "Dawson's Creek" star, who had just broken up with her fiancé Chris Klein six weeks earlier, was smitten with her childhood crush.

“I was in love from the moment I shook his hand,” Holmes later gushed in her first post-marriage interview with Harper’s Bazaar.

But one couch jump, one daughter, and five years later, it looks like it's time for Cruise to start the audition process once again.

Sofia Vergara Tops Forbes' Highest-Paid TV Actresses Of 2012

Sofia Vergara

Forbes rolled out its highest-earning actresses on television

While most of the actresses don't surprise on the full list of 20, there are a significant amount of reality TV stars who did make the cut.

Sofia Vergara topped the list with her many film roles and television prowess on the award-sweeping "Modern Family."

We've plucked the top ten filled with Kardashians, "Desperate Housewives," and a three-way tie for eighth place.

10. Ellen Pompeo: $9 million

Eight seasons of "Grey's Anatomy" has paid off for Meredith Grey. According to Forbes, the actress was earning an estimated $275,000 per episode. (Estimates on IMDB mark this figure a bit lower at an estimated $200,000 per episode since 2005.)

However, the doctor is doing more than scrubbing in on routine surgeries. Pompeo launched production company, Calamity Jane, last year. The company has already sold an untitled project to ABC.

9. Felicity Huffman – $9 million

It pays to be "desperate." Though a long nine years on Wisteria Lane have come to an end on "Desperate Housewives," Huffman is leaving with a pretty paycheck

In the past year, the actress also worked on ad campaigns, including one for "Got Milk" with husband William H. Macy

8. Zooey Deschannel: $9 million

Deschannel's adorkable spirit won over fans on Fox's "New Girl." The show was among the first of its season to easily get renewed

When not playing bubbly naive Jess on Fox, the girl stays busy with website hellogiggles.com, commercial deals (check her out in this iPhone ad), and new original web series, "The Single Life."

'Modern Family' Season 4 Production Delayed Amid Salary Negotiations, Lawsuit

Modern Family

20th Century Fox Television has some "Family" matters to deal with.

The producers of ABC's hit comedy "Modern Family" are in tough contract negotiations with the cast, and now production on season four is being delayed, as cast members skipped the first table read today.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, and Sofia Vergara have filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court to void their contracts.

Notably absent from is the sixth main adult cast member, Ed O'Neill, who THR says makes more than his co-stars and is negotiating separately, though sources are saying he has joined the lawsuit out of solidarity to his castmates. O'Neill was the biggest name in the cart due to his run on the hit sitcom "Married… With Children."

The news comes less than a week after all six adult cast members received Emmy nominations (bringing the group's total nominations in the show's first three seasons to an incredible 17, with only O'Neill missing out for season 1). Burrell and Bowen took home awards last year, and Stonestreet won for season 1. Vergara was recently named Forbes' best paid actress on television.

Though the cast members all have contracts through the seventh season, it's common to renegotiate between the third and fourth seasons. THR explains the cast members are claiming their current contracts violate California's "Seven Year Rule" which prevents service contracts longer than seven years, a common legal strategy in these situations.

THR says the five cast members currently filing suit were offered salary increases of "$150,000 per episode plus a $50,000 per episode bonus for season 4; $200,000 per episode for season 5; $225,000 for season 6; and up to $325,000 for an anticipated season 9. The cast is asking for much more, including more than double the offered salary if the show goes 8 or 9 seasons, as expected.

For the 22-episode season 3, the five adult cast members made roughly $65,000 an episode (O'Neill made closer to $105,000).

The series also begins a lucrative syndication deal with USA in 2013, which paid close to $1.5 million per episode. The show is poised to make even more from foreign revenue and broadcast stations as well.

Modern Family Sofia Vergara Emmys 2012

Sunday night's 64th Primetime Emmy Awards honored this year's best in television.

While the telecast, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, mainly saw familiar faces taking the stage to accept awards, there were a few surprises.

ABC's "Modern Family" and Showtime's "Homeland" won big, while "Mad Men" shockingly did not—taking home zero of the 17 awards the show was nominated for.

Yellow and blue dominated the red carpet, while Sofia Vergara tweeted a photo of her major wardrobe malfunction.

Host Jimmy Kimmel opens the show with this star-studded video. Watch Best Actress nominees such as Zooey Deschanel, Lena Dunham and Christina Hendricks knock some sense into a stage fright-ridden Kimmel.

Jimmy Kimmel gets "OMG Tracy Morgan" trending worldwide on Twitter after pulling a prank calling Tracy Morgan onstage and asking viewers to tweet, "OMG! Tracy Morgan just passed out onstage at the Emmys. Turn on ABC now!"

Colombian beauty Sofia Vergara is known for her long brown locks, but it's surprisingly not the Emmy-winning "Modern Family" star's natural hair color.

The 40-year-old actress was actually born blonde, but has said she dyed her hair because “It didn’t match the Hollywood stereotype for a Latina woman.”

At the time, Vergara also added, “I think I should have always had dark hair.”

Looks like she changed her mind because on Tuesday, Vergara posted a photo of herself with a much lighter 'do.

The picture has over 33K "likes" on Instagram. What do you think of Vergara going back to her roots?

Here Are The Hottest Celebrities We Saw At The White House Correspondent's Dinner

$

From the lack of political news coming out of the Beltway today, it appears as though Washington is still recovering from the annual bender of celebrity-stalking, all-day cocktails, and shoulder-rubbing that is the White House Correspondents Dinner.

While the main event was obviously the dinner — and the dueling stand-up acts from President Barack Obama and Conan O'Brien— the real draw of the weekend was the plethora of parties before, after (and, thanks to BuzzFeed this year, during) the event.

We dropped by a few of the parties this weekend and even managed to sneak into the dinner for a few minutes. Below are some of the hottest celebs we saw.

Sophia Bush and Sofia Vergara posed for a pic on their way into the dining room:

sophia vergara sophia bush

San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro and his identical twin brother, U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas), seemed to be thoroughly enjoying their first Nerd Prom:

julian castro joaquin castro whcd

Kevin Spacey was also one of the hottest stars to see this weekend, thanks to his role as House Majority Whip Frank Underwood on House of Cards

Plenty of usual suspects made an appearance. Here's Obama confidante Valerie Jarrett chatting with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg before the dinner:

valerie jarrett michael bloomberg whcd

And here's White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough hanging out near the back of the ballroom:

denis mcdonough whcd

Some stranger names were also on the invite list. Duck Dynasty's Willie and Korie Roberston were the hottest reality star appearances at the dinner this year:

duck dynasty whcd

Celebrities at the dinner poured into the exclusive Vanity Fair/Bloomberg party at the French Embassy. Among those we spotted: Katy Perry hanging out with the cast of Modern Family, Elizabeth Banks entertaining a crowd at the bar; a very statuesque Nicole Kidman; Hayden Panettiere getting numerous compliments on her yellow dress; Bradley Cooper; and basically everyone else you've seen on TV this year.

Check out Vanity Fair's full photo gallery here >

One of the other hottest parties of the night was BuzzFeed's alternative soiree, which took place during the actual dinner and was packed with under-40-something political-types who couldn't get a ticket to the main event.

GOP anti-tax guru Grover Norquist made an appearance:

grover norquist buzzfeed whcd

And so did Robyn Wright Penn, better known in D.C. as her House of Cards character Claire Underwood:

robin wright penn house of cards buzzfeed whcd

Although there weren't too many other celebrity sightings at the BuzzFeed party, everyone there was having way too much fun to notice.

This video pretty much sums up the vibe:
